Think of pay-for-visitor links (PFV) as the basic building blocks for attracting new traffic to your website. Once in place and set up correctly it functions automatically bringing you a percentage of your traffic pie.
In fact, a PFV strategy should be employed before doing your traditional search engine optimization. It gives you one more level of research in real time and it provides valuable links in to your site !
My argument for having us provide this service is that we feel you will neglect other things that you need to do; like build relationships with your visitors, handle orders and customer service and a myriad of other things specific to your business. But if you insist on forging ahead on your own here are the steps you need to take:
1) Establish a budget for a monthly expenditure on PFV advertising for a year. A minimum would probably be $100. There are companies spending thousands of dollars a month on this avenue alone.
2)Brainstorm as many keywords as you can. Then extend them into short 2 and 3 word phrases.
3) Find out which of these keywords/terms offer traffic. Sometimes the words we construct are not the words that actually get typed in by people we want to visit our site. The easiest place to go to learn about traffic on keywords is part of the GoTo site. GoTo being the most popular PFV there is. Type in your search terms and words into their box and you can see how many visitors typed in the same query last month. Pretty neat ! You'll find this tool at:

4) Once you have determined which keywords/terms you would like to bid on its time to choose a couple of PFV's to open an account with. Your decision will be based on your budget. Sign up with a couple of PFV's and follow their instructions for setting up an account. Most PFV's require a minimum deposit of $25 to get started.
5) Your first month will be spent adjusting. What you are trying to do is get the most clicks for the least amount of money. That means you need to watch what is happening through the PFV reporting systems and act accordingly. Some of your listings may need to back off to a lower bid while others will need increasing. You can massage the traffic to be at a price you can afford. Many 10¢ or less links will make $25 produce hundreds of visitors. A few $2 links and you will have to be replenishing your account with another $25 more often.
